Webinar on Teachers Day

Pushpa Gujral Science City celebrated Teacher’s Day on September 5, 2020 by organizing a webinar on “Communicating Science to Society: The Importance of Science Cities & other Aid”. More than 200 students and teachers participated in the webinar including 100 participants through PGSC’s You tube link.

Dr. Neelima Jerath, Director General, Science City in her welcome address emphasized on the role played by Science City as a distributor of scientific knowledge and concepts and successfully keeping the youth in the region engaged in pursuit of science, technology and innovation through webinars and online science camps.

On this occasion Principal Secretary Science Technology & Environment, Punjab Sh. Alok Shekhar IAS in his message conveyed that Science Centres are specialized places for communicating science. Pushpa Gujral Science City set up under the aegis of State Department of Science and Technology is providing an opportunity to the society to explore the mysteries that make up our world. It is serving as an important platform to develop an informed and knowledgeable society by encouraging public understanding and engagement with science thus empowering masses to make well-informed decisions

Prof. Ashutosh Sharma. Secretary, Science & technology, GOI in his keynote address said that communicating Science in its simplest form is very important to see the end of fad diets, anti-vaccination movements, non-acceptance of Climate Change data and quick gobbling up of unverified information on the digital media. Further he said that, COVID-19 pandemic is a drastic reminder about the importance of science communication. Policy-makers and researchers, communication practitioners and affected citizen have seen that measures to contain the spread of the virus will only be socially accepted if the communication between stakeholders is effective.
