Science Journalism is an important tool to communicate complex scientific concepts in a simplified manner at the grass root level. You would agree that the current stage in the evolutionary ladder of journalism, following print, radio, and television’ is digital journalism. As of now, as many as 80% of our population consumes information available on the Internet, primarily through the social media, much of which is from unverified sources as amply exemplified during the Coronavirus pandemic. This has weakened the gatekeeping role of traditional journalism.
In order to provide a platform to budding journalist to improve their skills and develop professionalism in Science Communication, International webinar on Science Journalism: From Print to Digital' on September 24, 2021, being held jointly by Vigyan Prasar (an autonomous organization for science popularization under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India) and PGSC.
The Webinar will include two lead talks on ‘Understanding processes for communicating scientific information based on verifiable evidences and challenges it poses for the journalists’ and ‘Effective communication through digital platforms’ followed by a Panel discussion on “Transformation of Communication Medium: from Print to Screen”.
